Our Midwifery Services
At Tararua Midwives, we provide continuity of care throughout your pregnancy, labour, birth, and the weeks following your baby's arrival.
As your Lead Maternity Carers (LMCs), we work alongside you to ensure you receive personalised care that is tailored to your individual needs.
Antenatal
Regular antenatal appointments allow us to monitor your health and your baby's wellbeing while preparing you for birth and parenthood. Appointments include:
- Monitoring your baby's growth and development.
- Checking your blood pressure and overall wellbeing.
- Discussing pregnancy symptoms and concerns.
- Arranging blood tests and ultrasound scans.
- Providing education about pregnancy and birth.
- Helping you prepare for labour and caring for your newborn.
Labour and birth
When labour begins, we'll be available to support you throughout your birth journey. We provide care wherever you choose to give birth, depending on what is appropriate for your pregnancy and available within our region. We offer a wide range of birth types and locations.
Our role is to support you emotionally and physically, and advocate for you, while ensuring the safety of both you and your baby.
Postpartum
Following your baby's birth, we'll visit you regularly at home or in clinic until your baby is around six weeks old.
During these visits we support:
- Your physical recovery.
- Your baby's growth and feeding.
- Breastfeeding or infant feeding.
- Emotional wellbeing.
- Transition into parenthood.
- Routine newborn assessments.
Collaborative care
If your pregnancy becomes more complex or additional care is required, we work closely with obstetricians, GPs, hospital teams, lactation consultants, physiotherapists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure you receive the best possible care.
