Postnatal Care
The weeks after birth are a time of adjustment for both parents and baby. We continue caring for you until your baby is around six weeks old, supporting your family's transition into life with your newborn.
Home Visits
During the early days after birth we'll visit you regularly to assess:
- Your recovery.
- Your baby's health.
- Feeding.
- Weight gain.
- Emotional wellbeing.
- Any concerns you may have.
As you and your baby become more confident and settled, visits gradually become less frequent.
Feeding Support
Whether you're breastfeeding, expressing, combination feeding, or formula feeding, we're here to provide practical support and evidence-based information.
Looking After Your Wellbeing
We care for your physical and emotional recovery by:
- Monitoring healing after birth.
- Discussing sleep and rest.
- Supporting your mental wellbeing.
- Answering questions about newborn care.
- Helping you adjust to life as a new parent.
Discharge from Midwifery Care
At around 5 weeks, we will complete your final assessment before transferring your ongoing care back to your GP and Well Child provider. Your Well Child Provider may be your GP, Plunket or local iwi provider.
